Course objectives:
This course is about dialectological and Croatian language history research. The aim of this course is to acquaint students with modern means and methods of dialectology research and train them in performing autonomous research activities regarding field research as well as research on printed and manuscript materials.
Course content:
1. Introduction: course content and proposal, student responsibilities (instruction consist of workshops and practical exercises in which students will be introduced to the method of collecting and classifying dialectological and linguistic-historical material)
2. Select topics: dialectological and Croatian language history material: research methodology (collecting and sorting dialectological and Croatian language history material)
3. Dialectological research: make question mark (phonological, morphological, accentual)
4. Dialectological research: field research (sound recordings)
5. Dialectological research: transcription
6. Dialectological research: phonological analysis (vowel, consonant and accentual systems): exposition and discussion
7. Dialectological research: morphological analysis: exposition and discussion
8. Dialectological research: summary and conclusion
9. Croatian language history research: field research: archival and manuscript material (Nadbiskupski arhiv u Splitu, Državni arhiv, Sveučilišna knjižnica,Gradska knjižnica Marko Marulić)
10. Croatian language history research: transcription
11. Croatian language history research: orthographic: exposition and discussion

Format of instruction: lectures, seminars and workshops, field work, independent assignments, consultations.
Student responsibilities:
Students are required to:
1. Participate in the teaching process (80 % of lectures and 80 % of seminar papers)
2. Behave in accordance with ethical and scientific principles in higher education process
3. Make question mark
4. Do an independent dialectological and/or Croatian language history research
5. Prepare and present a seminar paper according to pre-determined criteria.
Grading and evaluating student work in class and at the final exam:
In accordance with the stated learning outcomes and the obligations of students in the course, the final assessment is based on the following elements:
1. Make question mark: 25 %
2. Research: 50 %
3. Present the research (a seminar paper): 25 %
